Aftra forges its own path and emerges as an independent entity

Today marks a huge milestone for us. We’re excited to announce that Aftra is now an independent company, after previously operating as part of the cybersecurity consulting firm, Syndis. Stepping out as an independent company gives us the freedom to focus entirely on our vision to help companies understand their digital security and minimize risk by making security simple. We will continue to work closely with Syndis to deliver exceptional cybersecurity software and services to Icelandic and foreign markets. Both companies are, and continue to be, subsidiaries of the holding company, Origo.

Aftra began as a passion project amongst Syndis’ team of cybersecurity experts who saw a big problem in the market: many companies don’t fully understand their digital weak spots and that there’s no other solution available that effectively solves it. 

The Aftra solution is based on hacker methodology. It helps organizations map out and understand their digital footprint in order to spot potential vulnerabilities that hackers could exploit and enable them to fix those weak spots before someone else exploits them. In other words: we show companies what a hacker sees.

We offer a wide scope of attack surface management through continuous external and internal vulnerability scanning and monitoring. Our goal is to help managers understand and take more responsibility for their companies' cyber security by challenging the idea that security is complex. We don’t just flag vulnerabilities– we hand managers the reins to make security a business-wide objective. The dashboard is easy-to-use and understand and provides businesses with a clear picture of their security store and prioritized opportunities for improvement.

The Aftra managing team

Aftra’s leaders are seasoned professionals with diverse expertise in software development, leadership, and business development. Together, they bring extensive knowledge and experience to drive the innovation and growth of the company. 

Björn Orri Guðmundsson, CEO. Björn brings a wealth of experience in software development and leadership to his role as CEO. Most recently, he led the software development team at Syndis. Before that, he held key leadership positions at Tempo, where he worked extensively with DevOps, back-end and front-end development, and product development teams. Björn holds a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Iceland, graduating in 2011.

Sindri Guðmundsson, CTO. With over 13 years of experience in software development, Sindri has held diverse roles at companies like Trackwell, Andes, and Tempo. Since joining Syndis in 2021, he has overseen programming, operations, and DevOps. Sindri earned his BSc in Computer Science from the University of Iceland in 2012.

Stefanía Berndsen, CCO. Stefanía joined Syndis in August 2023, bringing with her extensive experience in software sales. She previously worked at Keepit and the Copenhagen-based start-up Develop Diverse. Stefanía holds a BSc in Business, Language, and Culture, with an emphasis on Spanish, and an MSc in Diversity and Change Management, both from Copenhagen Business School. She graduated with her MSc in 2020.

This is just the beginning

This is just the beginning for Aftra. The team is already hard at work at securing key customers and partnerships, building exciting new features, and continuously innovating to reshape the Attack Surface Management software industry.
